T Shop’s Yunnan Silver Needle
T Shop has become one of my favorite tea… shops 😜. The team there travels to China, Taiwan and Korea to directly source their teas from farmers. And that dedication comes across in the quality of their teas. This Yunnan Silver Needle tea in particular is a fabulous example of quality. The delicate silver hairs on the buds shimmer as they fall into the pot. The aroma is complex and luxurious. White tea is not usually my go-to, but this one has changed my mind.
Tea from Yunnan
The Chinese province of Yunnan is known for its high-quality tea production. Pu-erh is traditionally produced from tea leaves in Yunnan. But so many more teas are grown and produced in the province. Black (or red) tea is a popular export, along with some green tea. The province of Fujian is more commonly known for its white tea. Yet this Yunnan Silver Needle tea shows how expertly crafted white tea can be in Yunnan.
Silver Needle White Tea
Silver Needle white tea gets its name from the small white fuzzy hairs covering the buds of the tea. White tea in general is a way of producing tea using the least about of processing. Some white teas are just dried leaves – no rolling, no steaming, just leaves. More commonly, white tea is made up of the young buds of the tea plant, giving a light, delicate flavor. The result is often a floral and fragrant brew.
